u bili uključeni u niz edukativnih i kreativnih aktivnosti usmjerenih na podizanje svijesti o ovom globalnom problemu.
Activities of Eighth-Grade Students
A total of 72 eighth-grade students, during Biology classes with their teacher Ana Tadić Marjanović, discussed the issue of food waste, researched relevant and up-to-date data online, and created a large informational display in the school hallway. The display served as an information corner for all students and staff, offering an opportunity to learn more about this important topic.
Through discussions with students, it was revealed that most of them were not aware that throwing away food also means throwing away money, and that they had not previously reflected on their food-related habits. This realization encouraged them to think more responsibly about food consumption.
A Digital Book as a Lasting Reminder
At the suggestion of ICT teacher Nataša Magdalenić, students Lara Fuzul and Anastazija Vuica created a digital book containing the same information as the display, now made available to a wider audience online. The book was produced in both Croatian and English, giving the project an international dimension and enabling broader awareness of this important issue.
Activities of Fifth- and Sixth-Grade Students
A total of 120 fifth- and sixth-grade students, during ICT classes with their teacher—who is also a nutritionist and a teacher of natural and healthy cooking—discussed the importance of food for human health. They reflected on what they eat, how healthy their diet is, and which foods contribute to health and which are harmful. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of consuming organic and unprocessed food, as well as fruits and vegetables from home or local gardens, while avoiding processed food.
As a result of these discussions, students created multimedia projects on the topic “The Food I Eat,” expressing their personal understanding of the importance of healthy nutrition.
Conclusion
These activities demonstrated that education is key to changing awareness about food waste and the importance of healthy eating. The FoodEducators project at Stjepan Radić Primary School in Bibinje inspired students and staff to reflect on their habits, make more responsible choices, and share their knowledge with others.
