TeamUp X Health Held
On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, the TeamUp x Health event brought together experts, entrepreneurs, and innovators from the healthcare sector to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on personalized medicine. The event, hosted at Algebra Bernays University, provided a platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and showcasing innovative startup solutions.

The event was organized by Smion as part of the AI2MED project, and the project consortium consists of 11 partners from 7 different countries.

The goals of the AI2MED project are to integrate artificial intelligence into medical practice, which would revolutionize diagnosis, treatment and monitoring, and to conduct training programs to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence in healthcare. In the end, the goal is a project to transform the healthcare system to make it more precise, efficient and accessible to everyone.

Panel: AI in Personalized Medicine – Benefits for Patients, Doctors, and Technology

The discussion provided the audience with valuable insights into the current state of personalized medicine and the barriers preventing its wider adoption. It was emphasized that artificial intelligence already enables faster and more accurate diagnostic procedures, but that medicine—as a traditionally conservative profession—is slow to adapt to new technologies. Robert Likić highlighted that AI significantly increases physicians’ efficiency and also shared his predictions regarding the growing use of AI in psychotherapy.

Mario Ravić pointed out that personalized medicine is still in its early stages of development, and that high-quality research is one of the key factors for its implementation. He emphasized that successful companies collaborate with research institutes and that major advances in healthcare can only be achieved through in-depth research. He also identified legal aspects—particularly GDPR regulations—as barriers to development, along with the fact that Croatia currently has very little structured healthcare data.

On the other hand, Ivica Belina emphasized that the healthcare system in Croatia is not yet ready to fully embrace personalized medicine. There is no unified hospital system, and the management of health data is inadequately regulated. However, collaborations such as the Croatian Health Data Center (CHDC) and a consortium of 26 institutions working on a cancer research network indicate positive progress toward digitalization and better use of data in medicine.

Startup Team Pitching

Following the panel discussion, innovative healthcare startups presented their pitches:

These startups demonstrated innovation in applying artificial intelligence in healthcare, while also highlighting opportunities for collaboration and employment within the digital health sector. Could one of these opportunities be right for you?

Interest Continues to Grow

The continued interest in TeamUp and the discussions it has sparked show that there is still limited space in public discourse for connecting healthcare and technology. We are proud that, for the third time within a year, we have brought the community together and initiated conversations crucial for the advancement of medicine in Croatia. Read more about the conclusions from the TeamUp events held in July and October 2024.
